Onycholysis is a painless common nail disorder characterized by loosening or separation of nails from its nail bed. It is also a sign of skin disease or an infection from varying agents.

Such condition usually starts at the tip of the nail and progresses back.

Kinds:

* idiopathic acquired onycholysis
* hereditary distal onycholysis

Causes

Common causes are:

* Trauma
* Yeast infection
* Sarcoidosis
* Yellow nail fungus

* Psoroasis and other skin diseases can also cause Onycholysis

Symptoms

* Nail border irregularities
* Discoloration of underneath portion of the nail bed
* Painless separation of nail from the nail bed
