Arthritis is a disease caused by inflammation of the joints. It was derived from two Greek words: athron, meaning joints; and itis, meaning inflammation. There are many types of arthritis; most common being the osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. Osteoarthritis is a degenerative joint disease commonly found in the senior population. Rheumatoid arthritis, on the other hand, is a severe case that affects not only the joints of the fingers, wrists, hips, knees, and feet, but also the muscles, tendons and other tissues of the body. Symptoms of Arthritis Main symptoms are stinging pain and stiffness of the joints that increases after every exercise. Rheumatoid arthritis is often called the ‘cooked food disease’. It develops gradually for several months, with the pain and stiffness persisting in one or more joints until the whole body is affected.
